One girl. Five boys competing for her love and the power she alone controls.
Lady of Londinium, the first book in the Young Adult/New Adult Dystopian/Paranormal/Steampunk/SciFi Romance Dead Sun series has been released today and is now available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
I was originally intending to self publish this title as you may have noted from my first post. However, I have now released Lady of Londinium in partnership with Blushing Books Publishing through my own venture, Wild Girl Publishing. If you are a reader of my romance novels written under my Arabella Kingsley pen name, you will be aware I have done this with some of those titles under Lost Girl Publishing.
Here is the blurb and a quick taster from the book.
One girl. Five boys competing for her love and the power she alone controls.
1987. Empath Clara Driscoll has been seeing visitors from other dimensions all of her life and has been bullied because of it. Moving North she attends Ravenshead Private School in the beautiful Lake District to continue her A-level studies where several girls have gone missing without a trace. Before Clara can use her gift to find them with the help of her new friend handsome American student, Carter Grayson, whose sister is one of the missing, she is attacked by a group of flesh eating creatures. A gorgeous Dystopian Vampire with long blonde hair, Darius Constantine rescues her and takes her back to his own world, London of the future on an Earth without a sun in darkness, drifting through space.
Londinium is a vast rich colourful layered futuristic Victorian underground city complete with buildings, sky and even a beach without sunlight. Here mutated humans, Vampires, Werewolves, Angel and Demon forms and more live. With the help of Darius and Carter, it is here, Clara searches for the girls who have been sold to Vampires for pure blood and Monks with a terrorist agenda whilst discovering it may not be the first time she has visited Londinium.
But Vampires, zombie flesh eaters, cyborgs and sword wielding Monks aren’t the only hazard. Clara finds herself the object of fascination for the Emperor’s attractive son, Octavius and the alluring dangerous Lord Phraeon alongside Darius and Carter, all ready to compete for the new Lady of Londinium’s hand.
I found myself sitting next to a man. Just like all the other beautiful people in this future underground city he was good looking and young but this time with short dark brown hair he wore flat and down just to his neck. He sat on the black leather seat in a dark grey and silver high necked coat buttoned down the middle with huge cuffs over black trousers. He smiled at me and closed his hands over a silver topped cane he had pressed into the floor of the car between his legs.
“Good morning, Lady Driscoll or may I address you by your real title, Miss Driscoll from Ravenshead,” he said with some amusement, his hypnotising dark green eyes twinkling.
“You may not call me anything,” I mocked. “Who the hell are you?”
He chuckled as I moved my gaze around the car realising I was out numbered by the two robots. But there was also another passenger facing me in the back. My breath caught in my throat when my eyes came to rest on the Cybrarian. The man was smiling at me again.
“Do not be frightened, Miss Driscoll, he will not hurt you. Not unless I ask him to.”
“Who are you?” I demanded again trying to keep control of my fear, feeling my legs begin to shake underneath my dress.
“I am Lord Byron Phraeon,” he replied giving my figure the once over with his eyes making me frown at him.
“And you are the vampire kidnapping the girls from Ravenshead and the rest of the country.”
“Spot on,” he laughed.
“And I suppose I am next,” I said glancing nervously at the Cybrarian who stared back at me with soulless eyes like a zombie.
“No. Not yet. I have to confess, Miss Driscoll you intrigue me. I want to get to know you a little better before I allow you to be used as a recreational drug for bored Londinium vampires who want to explore the true nature of being a vampire when they are high in pure blood,” he informed me in a flippant tone. “Anyone who can resist my Cybrarian so strongly and demonstrate empathetic abilities such as yours is worth investigation. I may have a use for you.”
“I won’t work for a criminal like you. Where are you keeping the girls?”
“I had such a secure holding cell here in the city but I had to quickly move them to another location. Your gift is genius but rather tiresome. No matter I will find a way to control it to my advantage with the assistance of the Cybrarian. Besides, I think you are very special, Clara. I believe you have many abilities you do not know how to use yet such as the energy field within you that can be used as a weapon or a tool for healing. Your use of it so far has been weak but I will be able to teach you and make good use of it. I want to find out what other gifts you possess and what makes you tick.”
“How do you know about that?” My throat was dry.
His lips curled into a wicked smile.
“I know everything about you, Clara. I have made it my business to since I sensed your presence in Ravenshead and I was there in the woods to witness your use of the energy field against the Flesh Eaters. If Lord Constantine had not come so gallantly to your rescue, I would have had the honour. Then there is that altercation at school with those boys you managed to have expelled my sources told me about.”
“You know about that?” I asked disbelievingly.
“Yes, my second source of information was very keen to tell me everything after I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.”
“You’ve been talking to Craig Knight?”
I knew the answer before he spoke.
“Yes. I sought him out but you do not have to be afraid of him. I won’t allow him to hurt you again.”
I felt frustration override my fear.
“I won’t let you take anymore girls from Ravenshead or anywhere else in my time. Let me out. I am not going to help you.”
I reached across the robot on the other side of the car and tried to lift the handle to open the door, the idea being to throw myself out and escape. I wasn’t going to let him torture me or experiment to find a way to control me. The door started to open and I attempted to launch myself out over the Humanoid. It was futile and stupid when I look back at it but I couldn’t just let him take me. What if he used me to get more girls or to hurt someone? I felt his strong hand grip my arm and pull me back towards his side. The Robot shut the door. I stared down at Lord Phraeon’s hand on my arm noticing a silver and black ring with a silver crown in its black centre on his middle finger.
“You will not act so foolish again,” he told me sternly. “There is no escape from this. I will not allow you to hurt yourself. You are far too valuable to lose or be damaged. Now I must leave you, Clara for now, I have a prior engagement with Prince Octavius.”
He leaned forward and spoke to the driver.
“Zeus,” he called to the driver. “Take her to the town house for now. When I return we will take her to the new holding cell,” he instructed.
“Yes Sir,” the human chauffeur answered. The car suddenly pulled in to the side of the road. Lord Phraeon turned to look at me. He tucked his fingers underneath my chin and gave me a look that told me he was attracted to what he was seeing. If he hadn’t been so . . . if he hadn’t been a criminal who had kidnapped me, I would have acknowledged the attraction was mutual. What was it with this place and the men in it? Why did they have to come so nicely gift wrapped? Even the bad ones. And why did I have to like them?
“You are breath taking, Clara.”
Ok, I blushed.
“I can’t wait to work with you and learn all about you. I want to find out how your uniqueness came to be in such a backward world. You remind me of someone I knew once. She was a formidable creature and devastatingly beautiful. Her power was immense and her blood potent. If I didn’t know any better I would have believed you were part of her.”
I stared at him dumbfounded by his words wondering who he was talking about and what he meant.
“Until later then. For now, rest. I know how much your gifts tire you,” he said gently.
Lord Phraeon let go of my chin as the chauffeur opened the door for him.
“Wait,” I ordered putting my hand on his arm.
“If you are transporting the girls from Ravenshead, the portal you use to my time must be stable.”
“Yes, it is. I have found a way to keep it open. It is one of many. But you will not be needing it. Your home is with me in Londinium now, Clara. Rest and we will talk later.”
Then he was gone and the car door was being closed and the Cybrarian came to sit next to me. I sat back defeated. But only for now. I wasn’t giving up. There had to be another way to escape.
So, in celebration of my first Astor Steele release, I am giving away three copies of Lady of Londinium at random. All you have to do is to subscribe to my newsletter and comment on this post. The contest will end in 48 hours. Good luck. :)
